CADMUS, Paul  (1904-99) American artist-illustrator. A fifteen-page booklet from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, containing an interview with Chuck Close and featuring several illustrations. Nicely signed on the cover by Cadmus in black marker pen.  $ 95


CADMUS - Bold signature on a 3"x5" card that has been professionally matted with a color litho print of one of the artist's illustrations. The board is burnished metallic copper and oversized (13"x16.5"). The illustration is an interesting self-portrait of Cadmus looking into a mirror. $ 145


DENCH, Dame Judith Olivia (1934)  English actress of stage and screen. Winner of nine BAFTA's, seven Laurence Olivier Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, an Oscar, and two Golden Globes (not to mention a Tony!). 8"x10" color glossy character still from her Oscar-winning performance as the Queen in "Shakespeare in Love." $ 65

PAULING, Linus Carl (1901-94) American scientist, peace activist, author and educator. One of the most influential chemists in history and ranks among the most important scientists in any field of the 20th Cetury.

TELLER, Edward (1908-2003) Hungarian-American theoretical physicist, known colloquially as the "father of the hdrogen bomb," even though he claimed that he did not care for the title.

Autograph display piece consisting of a cacheted postal first day cover, 1978, honoring Dr. George Papanicolaou. Signed by both Teller and Pauling. Matted along with two small black/white images of Teller and Pauling with haunting quotations. Teller:  "Life improves slowly and goes wrong fast, and only catastrophe is clearly visible." Pauling:  "...the time has now coome for man's intellect to win out over the brutality, the insanity of war..." Prophetic words in these challenging times and a most relevant autograph piece. Perfect for a researcher, scientist or teacher.  $ 150


EDEN, Barbara (1934 -  )  American film and television actress and singer; best known for her co-starring role in "I Dream of Jeannie." Wonderful 8"x10" color glossy character still as Jeannie, boldly signed in blue marker pen. Obtained at an in-person signing.  $ 65

BURNETT, Carol  (1933-   ) Comedienne, actress, singer, dancer, star of stage and television. Her hugely popular "Carol Burnett Show" ran for over 270 episodes. Hilarious 8"x10" color matte-finish photo of Miss Burnett, nicely signed in blue fountain pen.  $  45

 

 

SERKIN, Rudolf  (1903-91)  Bohemian-born pianist and classical recording artist. Serkin was, for many years, a teacher at and then director of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Co-founder of the Marlboro Music School and Festival in 1951, and he served as its Artistic Director until his death forty years later. In-person greeting and signature dated 1964. Professionally matted and ready for display.

SHORT, Bobby    (1924-2005) Americancabaret singer and recording-artist known for his interpretation of songs by 20th century composers such as Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Vernon Duke and George Gershwin and Ira GershwinIn-person signed autograph album leaf (1979). Accompanied by a handsome 8”x10” color glossy photograph of the pianist smiling broadly. Short was the “toast of New York” for decades as the headliner at Café Carlyle. $75 (Payment Options)

 

HALL, Adelaide  (1901-93)  American-born British jazz singer and entertainer. Deemed one of the top 100 Brits in showbiz. Vintage album leaf accomplished in green fountain pen ink. "Most sincere wishes, Adelaide Hall, queen "Fatima" in the Sun Never Sets, Drury Lane, London."  $ 75 (Payment Options)

 

MOORE, Grace   (1898-1947)  American operatic soprano; also appeared in a few films (most notably “One Night of Love,” 1934, Columbia Pictures). Popularly hailed as the “Tennessee Nightingale.”Mesdame Moore died in a plane crash near the Copenhagen, Denmark airport on January 26, 1947, at the age of 48. Vintage fountain pen signature in blue ink on a slip of paper (measure 4.5”x2.5” with room for matting). Accompanied by two photographs: one a vintage 8”x10” black and white publicity photo. The other is a 8”x10” black and white glossy operatic character still print by Teppo, NY (unfamiliar with the role). All three items would make a lovely display. $95 (Payment Options)


JORDAN, Barbara  (1936-96)  First African-American woman to serve in the U.S. Congress. Document Signed; a postal first day cacheted cover honoring Ida B. Wells, Black journalist and reformer. Nicely signed in black marker pen. Professionally mounted with Mylar hinges to a larger deep purple matboard with a purple overlay board. Accompanied by a striking 8”x10” black and white, litho print portrait of Congresswoman Jordan seated in a wheelchair. YOUNG, Loretta (1913-2000)  Acclaimed star of stage, screen and television; producer and author.The star of more than 105 films; had her own successful dramatic TV series for many years. Winner of Academy and Emmy Awards. Vintage signature on a pale yellow card, professionally matted with a 8”x10” black and white vintage reproduction glossy glamour portrait wearing her strand of trademark pearls. Further protected by Mylar wrap. Overall measure 11.25”x15.25”. $100 (Payment Options)


HULL, Henry (1890-1977) Kentucky-born actor of stage and screen who went on to achieve considerable acclaimed in England where he died. Starred in more than 108 films. Credited with bringing to life the role of Jeeter from Erskine Caldwell’s “Tobacco Road.” Also renowned for his 1935 performance as Dr. Glendon in “The Werewolf of London” (direction: Stuart Walker). Vintage signature accomplished in fountain pen ink on a small ecru card, artfully matted in a double board of crème-marble and brown, along with a 5”x7” black and white vintage reproduction glossy character still as the menacing werewolf. SKELTON, Red (1913-1997) America’s favorite clown (after Emmett Kelly). Star of stage, screen and television. Phenomenally funny comedian and an accomplished painter. Beloved by millions for the characters he brought to life such as Klem Kaddilehopper and Freddie the Freeloader as well as Heathcliff the seagull. A vintage signature on a small white card, professionally matted in an interesting black corrugated board along with an oversized print of an original pencil drawing of Skelton, signed artist Beth Peterson (1999). GREENE, Lorne (1915-87)  Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Star of stage and screen, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Ben Cartwright on the long-running TV series “Bonanza.” Vintage dedication and bold signature “Best Bonanza wishes, Lorne Greene” on a small white card, professionally matted in an interesting pale brown corrugated board along with a 8”x10” black and white intage reproduction glossy character still as Ben Cartwright. Further protected by a Mylar wrapper. Overall dimensions 11”x16”. Greene is less common in authentic material than many actors. $195


BRANAGH, Kenneth  (1960-   ) Perhaps the best-known interpreter of Shakespeare in the late 20th Century, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Early on he was a star pupil of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and has gone on to enjoy considerable notoriety both on stage and screen. Very bold signature in blue marker pen on a large white card, professionally matted along with a 8”x10” color glossy character still as Henry V (from the 1989 film). BAILEY, Pearl  - Singer, actress, author, star of stage. An 8"x10" black and white closeup glossy photograph which she has signed simply "Love, Pearl."  $ 45

PETTY, Richard Lee (1937 -  ) Former NASCAR driver who raced in the strickly stock/grand national Era and the Winston Cup Series. "The King," as he is nicknamed, is most well-known for winning the NASCAR Championship seven times (Dale Ernhardt is the only other driver to accomplish the feat). Signed color litho print promotional card, measure 8.5"x5.5" which includes a brief biography on the reverse. Professionally matted so that both sides are visible and encased in Mylar protective cover.  $ 85

CAROLE LANDIS (Frances Lillian Mary Ridste), popularly billed as the Ping Girl, was born in Wisconsin in 1919.  Her parents were of Norwegian and Polish descent. In 1934, Landis moved to Hollywood in search of work where she was a dancer and singer. Early on she won a studio contract with Warner Bros. as a bit player in such films as A Star Is Born, A Day at the Races, The Emperor’s Candlesticks. Six years later she was cast as Loana in Hal Roach’s production of One Million B.C. which introduced her stunningly good looks to film audiences and her career took off. Although Landis did not gain leading roles, she landed many B picture parts. While a capable actor, the better roles went to more established actors of the day. In 1942, Landis made an exhausting six films such as Manila Calling, The Powers Girl and A Gentleman at Heart.  By the mid 1940s, her career was beginning to short-circuit due to poor health, a cancelled contract with 20th Century Fox, as well as failed marriages. Her final two films were released in 1948:  Brass Monkey and The Noose. Carole Landis committed suicide in 1948 by an overdose of seconal. She was only 29 but had made 49 films. It was long rumored that Landis took her life over a turbulent love affair with actor Rex Harrison. Landis had dinner with Harrison the night before she died and it was Rex Harrison who discovered her lifeless body. Had Hollywood moguls given Carole Landis a running start, she might have become another Hollywood legend. Very uncommon, vintage fountain pen ink signature on an autograph album leaf from the early 1940s. TANDY-CRONYN, Jessica  (1909-94)  British-born actress; longtime wife of actor Hume Cronyn; Academy and Tony-award winner; Kennedy Center honoree for lifetime achievement.  Among her more memorable, recent films, are:  Driving Miss Daisy, Fried Green Tomatoes, Cocoon, The World According to Garp, and The Gin Game. Typewritten letter signed, one page, 1987, on her personalized letterhead, to renowned autograph collector Robert Whittemore of San Francisco.  Reads “Your nice letter arrived during my absence on location. Immediately upon return I left the country. Thank you for the compliment of your letter and for taking the time and trouble to write. I’m pleased that you are enjoying the films of the past on television. All good wishes.” Near mint. $ 65 (Payment Options)

COTTEN, Joseph – (1905-94) American film actor. Vintage signed character still from Since You Went Away, 1944. In near mint condition. Measure 8’x10” black and white glossy. Professionally matted in a rich marbled-gold board. Shrink-wrap protected. Ready to frame. Affordable @ $65

HARRIS, Patricia Roberts – (1924-86) African-American ambassador, cabinet officer, lawyer, lecturer and professor. Named Ambassador to Luxembourg by Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965. Named Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in 1976 by Jimmy Carter. Went on to become Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare. Signed photograph: measure 5”x7” black and white glossy, as a cabinet officer. Boldly signed. Harris is uncommon in authentic material. The photograph as a few minor bends and “dings” that does not, overall, detract from the image. It has been professionally matted in a rich purple board along with a set of four, Black Heritage series commemorative stamps honoring Harris. $125 (Payment Options)

PAVAROTTI, Luciano (1935-2007) Celebrated Italian operatic tenor. Signed postal first day cover, 1997, celebrating Opera Singers. FDC is attached by Mylar hinges to a larger acid-free artboard along with a 4”x6” color lithoprint formal portrait of the smiling tenor. Matted in a black suede board and framed.  $ 225 Options)

PLACING AN ORDER – We distinguish between an inquiry and an order. If, however, we do not hear back from you on an inquiry, we can only assume you are not interested. Once an order has been placed, we actively remove merchandise from active inventory and reserve it. Thus it is not available to anyone else.  PLEASE, if you place an order, remit payment within three business days or inventory returns to our catalogue. Repeated incidence of late or non-payment is not fair to existing a new clientele who may be interested in a particular item.  We appreciate your understanding.

While the majority of our clients are within the continental United States, we also have clients in Europe and Asia. Please understand that shipment overseas will be Air Parcel Post, with shipping rates variable depending upon the country of delivery.

Layaway – Young people and those on a limited budget find layaway an excellent means of acquiring material. Our terms are simple. On purchases of $200 or more, a client may place an item or items on 90-day layaway with a one-third, non-refundable deposit. Equal payments are due at 60 and 90 days, at which time material is shipped. All material remains our sole property until such time as the terms of layaway are fully met. There is no additional charge for layaway.

New York State Sales Tax – All residents of New York must factor 8.25% sales tax on their order.
