Journalist, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright (So Big, 1924). Authored two autobiographies. She was among the best-read novelists in the U.S. Critics of the 1920s and 30s did not hesitate to call her the greatest American woman novelist of her day. She is often compared with Dorothy Parker. Perhaps her greatest work was Show Boat (1926). Among her other works are Cimarron, Giant, and Ice Palace.
Typewritten Letter Signed, one page, 1954, on her personal letterhead. Wonderful content evocative of Ferber’s brilliant wit. Reply to a young man stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. “Here is the picture you asked for and I am sorry that I am not more the pin-up girl type. I am happy to know that your interest in books causes you to want the photograph of a writer…” Professionally matted and framed. Accompanied by a plate of U.S. mint commemorative stamps honoring the novelist-playwright. A highly desirable letter of this often-overlooked American writer. $600
