Longtime archbishop of Milan. Succeeded John XXIII as Pope in 1963.
A man of keen intelligence ; one of the most extensively traveled popes in modern times (prior to John Paul II). A leader of Vatican Council II. Document Signed, one page, large folio, in calligraphic Italian, 1947, on paper bearing the blue crest of the Secretariat of State. The nomination of a Milan priest to become a supernumerary papal chamberlain. Professionally matted in white silk moiré with gilt insets, along with two original, photo-postcards of Paul VI bearing first day issue stamps. Also accompanied by a 2003 letter from the Vatican Secretariat of State providing a translation. Other provenance from the Archdiocese of Milan is included. This is an oversized autographed display piece under museum conservation glass and a high-end, gilt-wooden frame. Overall dimensions are 28”x20”. Impressive.
