ARGENTO, Dominick - Considered one of America’s pre-eminent composers of lyric opera. Received his Ph.D. from The Eastman School of Music where he studied with Hovhaness and Hanson. In 1958, he joined the faculty, Department of Music, University of Minnesota where he taught until 1997. Won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1975 for his song cycle From the Diary of Virginia Woolf. AMusQS, one page, October 31, 1986, being a handwritten excerpt From the Diary of Virginia Woolf (1975), one of Argento’s major song cycles. Reads: “From the Diary of Virginia Woolf, for Gil Moody with all best wishes, Dominick Argento, Oct. 31, 1986.” In fine condition. BAKER, Josephine - (1906-75) African-American-born dancer and singer who, in the 1920s became the “toast of Paris” for her exotic style of dancing. Beyond her sizeable accomplishments in the performing arts, Baker was a great humanitarian who served in the French resistance and adopted countless children at great personal expense. Over 20,000 people attended her funeral which was broadcast on Paris television. Magnificent 3”x5” black and white, litho print glossy photo-postcard of Baker which has been very boldly signed in black fountain pen and dated 1929. Although there is slight feathering to the signature, the photographic image and signature are near perfect. Professionally double-matted with another photo-postcard of Baker on top hat and tails, under TruVue museum conservation glass, and a high-end frame. DUARTE de PERON, Maria Eva (Evita) - First Lady of Argentina. Died of uterine cancer at the age of 33. Wife of Juan Peron whom Evita met in 1944 at a fundraiser. Despite some claims that Evita Peron resorted to ruthless tactics in silencing her opponents and those of her dictator-husband, contemporary historians are reevaluating her life in light of her great work for the underprivileged and, in particular, women. T.Ms.S., being a one-page, small engraved card dated May 4, 1949, in which Eva Peron appoints Maria Fedriani de Gallegos to be a professor of Spanish in the Department of Education. Very boldly signed and in excellent condition. Professionally double-matted with two, vintage, photo-postcards of Peron from that period. Encased in TruVue museum conservation glass and a high-end gilt wooden frame. Please note: signed documents run upwards of $2,500 and official signed portraits as much as $5,000. SOPHIE TUCKER ARCHIVE - Celebrated American vaudevillian, singer, star of stage, author. Popularly billed as the “Last of the Red Hot Mama’s.” A wonderful archive of autograph letters and notes; smaller autographed notes; a typewritten letter signed. Nearly 15 items total. All written to Judge and Mrs. Jerry Saperston of upstate New York between 1954 and 1964. Most are thank you notes for donations to the United Jewish Appeal “Sophie Tucker Youth Center”. Charming notes written on hotel stationery from the Carlton, Johannesburg; El San Juan, Puerto Rico; Sahara. HAUSNER, Rudolf - Eminent Austrian artist. Along with Ernst Fuchs, Wolfgang Hutter, Arik Brauer and Anton Lehmden he was founder and main representative of the Austrian Surrealism, the “ Wiener Schule des Phantastischen Realismus “.Between 1948 – 56 Professor Haunsner created the topics "Adam", "Anima" and " Fool’s Hat " This is an authentic autograph on a postcard after a painting titled “ Fool’s Hat – Narrenhut ” from 1955. Beautiful 4”x6” black and white glossy formal portrait (on a photo postcard) of Their Royal Highnesses, surrounded by children. Very boldly signed by both royals. WYNN, Ed (1886-1966) Great Vaudevillian Clown; film and TV star; hailed as the “perfect fool.”
Dedicated and signed “To Mother, from Sonny Ed” 1934
Ed Wynn began his showbiz career at age 13 by joining a traveling medicine show. He went on to achieve considerable fame in vaudeville. His father, who disapproved of his son’s choice of a profession, urged him to change his name lest he bring shame on the family. Appeared in 25 films and nearly 50 TV episodes. Host of “The Ed Wynn Show” (1949). Acclaimed as the “perfect fool” for his fluttery voice, vulnerable, bumbling, prattle and manner. He achieved special notoriety in the early days of television as the Texaco Sky Chief. More of a clown than comedian, Wynn brought vaudeville to television in its waning days. Oscar nominee.
Rare 14”x11” sepia-tone, matte-finish Vandamm studio portrait of the clown, inscribed, signed and dated 1934. “To Mother, from Sonny Ed, Ed Wynn, 1934.” In excellent condition. Bears the studio blind stamp in the lower right corner and their mark on the reverse. Vandamm Studio was the leading theatrical photographic studio in New York City from the 1930s through the 1950s. Founded in the 1920s by Florence Vandamm and her husband, George Robert Thomas, the studio eventually overshadowed White Studio photographing approximately 75% of the productions that reached the Broadway stage." (New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, 1995). When this amazing photograph came to our attention we did not hesitate to acquire it. Other than a barely perceptible crease in the upper left hand corner, this studio photograph is in beautiful condition. PLACING AN ORDER – We distinguish between an inquiry and an order. If, however, we do not hear back from you on an inquiry, we can only assume you are not interested. Once an order has been placed, we actively remove merchandise from active inventory and reserve it. Thus it is not available to anyone else. PLEASE, if you place an order, remit payment within three business days or inventory returns to our catalogue. Repeated incidence of late or non-payment is not fair to existing a new clientele who may be interested in a particular item. We appreciate your understanding.

at the time of offering but may change without notice. New York

New clients who have not established a relationship with us, and
who pay by personal check, are asked to wait seven to 10 days for
drafts to clear our bank before merchandise is shipped.
PayPal is a widely-accepted, fully-secure method of sending monies
worldwide. Many of our clients already use PayPal. Not only does
PayPal send confirmations of money transfers but it also provides
buyer and seller with a detailed record of transactions for accounting
purposes (especially helpful for insurance purposes). Although we
guarantee everything that we sell, PayPal also offers added protection
to buyers.
Important – please note: If you purchase anything from our
catalogue sampling, using the PayPal Buy It Now link below, it will
be necessary to confirm the shipping and insurance fees before processing
your payment. Please first contact us by telephone or e-mail to
determine what these additional fees will be. We generally ship
via U.S. Postal Service: priority mail, certified or insured. While
the majority of our clients are within the continental United States,
we also have clients in Europe and Asia. Please understand that
shipment overseas will be Air Parcel Post, with shipping rates variable
depending upon the country of delivery.
Layaway – Young people and those on a limited budget find
layaway an excellent means of acquiring material. Our terms are
simple. On purchases of $200 or more, a client may place an item
or items on 90-day layaway with a one-third, non-refundable deposit.
Equal payments are due at 60 and 90 days, at which time material
is shipped. All material remains our sole property until such time
as the terms of layaway are fully met. There is no additional charge
for layaway.
New York State Sales Tax – All residents of New York must factor 8.25% sales tax on their order. Erie County buyers must factor 8.75% sales tax.
